Illustration Details:
This was a private commission from an author who is still toying with the idea of making a commercial project of the book. She absolutely loved the cover, so hopefully we will see it on the shelves one day. For the brief, she provided a photo of a young man in a garden, whom she said she liked the features of as well as photos of the uniform and several authentic photos of the war itself (set during the Battle of the Bulge) to use as inspiration for the background and back cover scene. I initially drew up a pencil sketch of the full cover with most details on the soldier as his face would be the focal point. The client gave the go ahead and then I painted the full cover in Paintstorm Studio. I also used a grunge pattern to cut away at the text to give it a more gritty feel.
I’ve offered to adjust the spine for final page count, and add a blurb to the back if the client decides to publish.
