Illustration Details:
This was my second commission from this author. This time the start of a scifi trilogy about a living ship that takes the form of a green and blue mottled stingray. The author provided a the description of the ship’s form and textures, and also an idea of the sort of space scene he wanted. I conceptualised the ship and also did layout sketches for the composition. The client made his choice and I went on to paint the cover, mostly using Paintstorm Studio, but also nipping into Corel Painter for some custom star brushes. The cover typography was initially done in CorelDraw and then used as a negative cutout in Paintstorm Studio, where I had painted the glitter around it. I also warped the author’s name to follow the speedlines of the spacecraft.
Lastly I also supplied the author with a 3D mockup for marketing purposes.
