Main Panic Attack Symptoms

  • Sudden fear / terror (about something specific like having a heart attack or even something you can’t identify)
  • A feeling of impending disaster
  • Rapid heart beat
  • Difficulty breathing (or yawning)
  • Chest pains
  • Feeling dizzy / lightheaded
  • Tingling / numbness in parts of the body
  • Sweating, hot flushes or chills

Other Common Panic Attack Symptoms

  • Dry Throat
  • Feeling like you are losing control or going nuts
  • Uncontrollable trembling or muscle tensing
  • Feeling spaced out or detached from reality
  • Stomach pain or abdominal cramping

If you find you are relating to most of the panic attack symptoms in the above checklists, you are likely suffering from a panic attack. If you suffer from panic attacks regularly, you would be diagnosed as having ‘panic disorder’ which is a common anxiety disorder.
